Stillness is a sacred silence, where the human soul meets the Divine.
Meister Eckhart

Be Still, Behold, BeLoved
A virtual retreat into stillness, presence, and belovedness. In the movement and demands of everyday life, it can be difficult to become quiet enough to notice what is already present: the sacredness of ordinary moments, the Spirit moving within and around us, and the love that does not have to be earned.

Be Still, Behold, BeLoved is a virtual contemplative retreat designed to create space for rest, attention, and receiving. Over the course of the retreat, we will move through three connected invitations:
Be Still: Step away from striving and experience stillness as a form of rest—a spacious place in which the soul can become more attentive to God.
Behold: Explore different ways of seeing and recognizing the presence of God in music, art, nature, the ordinary, and within ourselves.
BeLoved: Consider what it might mean to rest in a love that is already present,
unconditional, and not dependent upon what we accomplish or prove.

Who is this retreat for?
This retreat is for anyone longing for a quieter, more spacious way to reconnect with God, themselves, and the world around them. You don’t need a religious background, meditation experience, or the right words for God. You need a quiet space for about a day, whether that’s a room at home or a room you rent for the weekend, and a willingness to be there. This said, the retreat is designed to be welcoming and meaningful for newcomers and experienced contemplative practitioners alike. Each invitation will offer enough guidance for those encountering these practices for the first time, while preserving the openness and depth that allow longtime practitioners to engage in their own ways.

What can I expect?
The retreat will include a blend of shared online gatherings and spacious time away from the screen. During our time together, you will be invited into:
-Guided contemplative and prayer practices
-Periods of silence, rest, and personal reflection
-Music, art, nature, and other invitations to attentive seeing
-Gentle opportunities for journaling or creative response
-Optional conversation and shared reflection
-Time to shape aspects of the experience around what you need
A brief orientation the week before the retreat will help you prepare your physical space, understand the rhythm of the retreat, and become comfortable with the virtual format. There will also be a small surprise heading your way.

What will I take with me?
The intention of this retreat is not to master contemplation in a weekend or to add another set of expectations to your life. Instead, you will be introduced to approachable practices, reflection prompts, and resources that you can return to after the retreat.
These resources can support you in cultivating moments of stillness, noticing the sacred within ordinary life, and returning to the grounding reminder that you are already held and loved. You might draw upon them as part of a regular spiritual practice, during seasons of transition, or whenever you need a way to pause, pay attention, and reconnect.

Who is leading the experiences?
The retreat will be led by five spiritual directors in training (and their experienced mentors) who will come to you from Los Angeles, Sacramento, Seattle, Michigan, and Maine. Interns Jeremy, Frances, JoDee, Patti, and Meagan have varied faith journeys, but also encompass backgrounds in education, the arts, research, healthcare, and embodied care, bringing distinct perspectives to their shared work. Through their formation together in the two-year Spiritual Director Training program offered through the Journey Center Association, their differences have grown into a deeply connected community whose gifts complement one another and shape the experiences that will be offered.

Where: Online through Zoom
When: The Participant Orientation will be on Thursday, December 3rd (5-6pm Pacific/7-8pm Central/8-9pm Eastern)
The Retreat will take place on Friday, December 11th (4-6pm Pacific/6-8pm Central/7-9pm Eastern); Saturday, December 12th (9am-2:30pm Pacific/11am-4:30 Central/ 12 noon-5:30pm Eastern)
