A quiet day together by Ruah Bull

This Saturday, six of us gathered for a centering prayer day at the Journey Center. Even though I have the opportunity to offer this each quarter, I continue to be amazed at the intimacy and safety that develops as people– often strangers to one another- find such deep connection by sitting together in silence dedicated to being present with the Holy. We had folks coming from a couple of different traditions– including Native American– so I was able to pray as my Cherokee teacher has taught me–to the Spirit :”You of so many names and You who cannot be named”. Out of the quiet time together, we also practiced Lectio with John 10:10; “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”, and were overwhelmed by the richness coming out of quiet–it was like winter soil that looks so empty–and yet begins to sprout with the miracle of that pale green beauty and life. Thank you to everyone who came and opened mind and heart to the Silence, to the Holy, and to each other.

    Ruah,
How wonderful. I hope I’ll be at the next Centering Prayer Day. I had an amazing time at Snowmass, I think it’ll take 6 months or so to process.Deep, rich, warm silence in a beautiful facility, situated at 8000ft., mountains at probably 12-13,000 ft, and lots of snow.I loved walking in the ice and snow to Mass at the monastery (it was about a mile there, a mile back). It was -10 degrees at night, warmed up to about 6 or 10 degrees above 0.I was in a snug little stone hermitage. We were up at 4 am or so, first sit was at 5:15, breakfast was at 6:30. David Frenette talked about a lot (it was so good, I gave up writing, and just listened), mostly the journey of the contemplative, and gave some instruction on the sacred breath, which I have found really grounding. (Inhale is consent to God’s action, exhale is surrender, and breathing is effortless for most of us, part of being alive, and God is in the breath).I could go on and on, and probably will…Glad to be back, and I hope you are feeling better.Betty thought you may have a cold.I’ll be there on Monday.Blessings,
    Barbara
