Reflections and Resources for October

photo of plantGreetings from the Journey Center staff!

It was very early in the morning, just as dawn was breaking. I was walking around Spring Lake, enjoying the cool air and the way the trees look at that time of day…silhouettes against the lightening sky. Lost in my own thoughts and prayers, I wasn’t paying much attention to the few other folks who were also out for their morning trek around the lake.

That is, until I spotted her! Every time I see this woman, my heart leaps and I get ready to smile. For years, she and I have walked different directions around the lake, so our paths end up crossing and I look forward to it every time.

I’ve never officially met this woman- I don’t know her name and she doesn’t know mine. We’ve never had a conversation. Why do I anticipate this brief encounter with such joy?

She is an older lady of Scandinavian descent. When I see her coming, I smile at her and I say “Good morning!” and she smiles at me and sings the words “Good morning!” back to me. That’s right, in her wonderful Scandinavian accent, she SINGS those two words to me. The sound is delightful and I always feel happy!

It struck me this week that I want to be a person who brings joy to other people’s hearts…and that this is our hope for the Journey Center, too! We want to be a place of love and welcome, offering resources that make a difference in your life, so that when you come into contact with us, your heart is encouraged.

As we near the end of September, it’s time once again to send you this list of the groups, workshops, prayer/meditation gatherings, concerts, retreats and other offerings that might just be that encouragement your heart is needing in the month ahead. Each one has a link to more details, and you can register to let us know you will be attending by calling us at 707-578-2121 or by signing up on our website at www.journeycenter.org . We so look forward to seeing you soon…
